What is a dental implant?

The artificial root
that fuses with your bone

A dental implant is an artificial root made of medical-grade titanium that integrates biologically with the jawbone (osseointegration). On top of this root a porcelain crown is placed that perfectly replicates the natural tooth, both aesthetically and functionally.

At Sergi Arranz Smile Studio we use grade IV titanium implants from leading brands (Straumann, Nobel Biocare) with prior 3D digital planning via cone beam CT for placement accuracy of 0.1 mm.

Who needs an implant?

Your case has a solution

Missing a single tooth

Due to decay, trauma or extraction. A single tooth implant is the most natural and durable solution without affecting adjacent teeth.

Several missing teeth

An implant-supported bridge without grinding down healthy adjacent teeth. More conservative and durable than the conventional solution.

Fully edentulous

All-on-4 or All-on-6: a complete fixed prosthesis supported by 4–6 strategic implants. Leave with teeth on the same day.

Uncomfortable removable denture

Replace your conventional denture with a fixed solution, free of adhesives and instability. Eat and speak with total confidence.

Bone loss due to missing teeth

Guided bone regeneration simultaneous with implant placement when bone is insufficient. All in one phase, no additional surgeries.

Seeking maximum aesthetics

Individualised porcelain crown for a result indistinguishable from the natural tooth in colour, shape and texture.

Step-by-step process

Precision at every stage

1

3D CT scan diagnosis First visit · 60 min

We perform a cone beam CT (CBCT) to measure the available bone, mandibular nerve position and bone quality to a precision of tenths of a millimetre. With this data we plan the surgery digitally before entering the operating room.

2

Implant placement Surgery · 30–60 min

Minimally invasive surgery with a 3D-printed surgical guide. Local anaesthetic, no pain. The titanium is placed in the exact planned position. In many cases we carry out immediate loading: a provisional tooth on the same day.

3

Osseointegration 2–4 months

The titanium integrates biologically with the bone. During this period you wear an aesthetic provisional. Regular check-ups to monitor the integration process without discomfort.

4

Definitive restoration 1–2 weeks in the lab

Digital impressions are taken to fabricate the definitive porcelain crown in a high-end dental laboratory. Colour, shape and texture designed to be indistinguishable from the natural tooth.

5

Guarantee and follow-up Annual review

With proper hygiene, an implant lasts a lifetime. We include annual reviews and a lifetime guarantee on the implant. 98% of our implants are still in perfect condition after 10 years.

Cutting-edge technology

Computer-guided
surgery

Our surgical suite is equipped with a cone beam CT (CBCT), 3D implant planning software and 3D-printed surgical guides. We plan every surgery in detail before touching the patient.

Result: faster, less invasive surgeries with success rates above 98%. The immediate loading protocol allows you to leave with a functional provisional tooth on the day of the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

No. The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and is completely painless during the procedure. Afterwards there may be mild discomfort for 2–3 days, perfectly manageable with ibuprofen. Most patients return to their normal activities the following day.

With correct hygiene and annual reviews, an implant lasts a lifetime. The 10-year survival rate exceeds 95% in all clinical studies. The porcelain crown may need replacing after 15–20 years due to normal wear.

In many cases, yes. We perform guided bone regeneration (GBR) simultaneously with implant placement when bone is insufficient. Specific implants for reduced bone also exist, and the All-on-4 technique allows complete prostheses to be placed in cases of severe bone loss without the need for grafting.

Immediate loading consists of placing a provisional tooth on the same day as the surgery, without waiting for the osseointegration period (2–4 months). When possible, it allows you to leave the clinic with teeth on the day of the procedure.

Implants are not covered by the public health system in Spain. Some private dental insurance policies offer partial cover. At our clinic we offer financing for up to 36 months interest-free to make treatment accessible.

The complete process requires between 3 and 5 appointments spread over 3–6 months: CT scan diagnosis, placement surgery, post-surgery review, crown impressions and fitting of the definitive crown. With immediate loading the number of appointments is significantly reduced.
